Description

My husband and I happened on this scene near Cades Cove in the Smokies. We have always been fascinated by the Civilian Conservation Corps stone-built bridges. This bridge is named West Prong, as it crosses the West Prong of the Little Pigeon River, close to the Townsend entrance to the park. This rugged structure was “built to endure” in 1934. It was difficult to get to the spot I wanted to paint. In the end, I wound up putting my easel in the shallows of the river. The water was freezing!
