Events of the last few years prevented my Smokies Plein Air Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage, so I was determined this year would be different. In April of this year, we set up our camper for a week-long stay at one of our favorite campgrounds. Not far from the Townsend entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this has been one of my go-to locations for plein air painting with easy access to some less-crowded areas of the park. I was finally back with several days to explore the wonders of a Smoky Mountain Spring. One of those days was spent in The Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area, which was home to some enthusiastic wildflowers and blooming dogwoods. The idyllic scene before me made for a wonderful day at the easel.
